Hunar Creative, innovative and enthusiastic are just some of the adjective that one can use to describe Zainab Panvelwala. She is passionate about Art and Craft and works with various mediums ranging from fabric to paper. Over the years she found teaching to be her true calling and there was an instant marriage of teaching and Art. She found she could reach out to many children, help the reserved ones, encourage the ones who thought out of the box and generally draw out the creativity of a child in a non –academic, stress free environment. Thus “Hunar” was created. The name given to Zainab by Syedi va Maulaya Aali Qadr Mufaddal bhaisaheb Saifuddin (T.U.S) for her Craft classes.
She conducts these classes in Pune, throughout the year and has special batches for the holidays. She teaches painting to little children. However what makes her different from the others is that she allows the children to ‘explore’ and feel the paint with their fingers and palms and then allows them to use their hands /palms/fingers to paint various things rather than being confined to a paint brush. This kind of free expression is considered to be very therapeutic for the little ones. “While painting is my passion, ribbon embroidery is my forte,” says Zainab, adding another dimension to her creative pursuits. She teaches children how to create exotic and colourful flowers from the humble ribbon and helps them to design their own ridas. This instills a sense of accomplishment in the girls as they get to wear something that has been created and designed by them. Zainab says that she has found conducting these classes extremely rewarding as it has helped her to grow as a person. She not only teaches but continues to learn from her students too.
