A woman entrepreneur
is a person who accepts a challenging role to meet her personal needs and
become economically independent. A strong desire to do something positive is
an inbuilt quality of entrepreneurial women, who is capable of contributing
values in both family and social life.

One such entrepreneurial woman is Pune based, Farida Shipchandler who began
her own business from home, which goes by the name of CRAFT COTTAGE. She
decorates various ordinary, day-to-day items with hand moulded roses;
transforming them into beautiful, yet practical products.
Not only are they unique, lightweight and useful; they make the perfect gifts;
be it Ramazan, a Mithi Shitabi or vevan-navsi, you need not look any further.
She not only supplies to various shops in Pune, but she has individual clients
all over India and abroad, as well. Her specialty lies in creating products
like key ho lders, ring holders,
nazrul maqaam boxes, button boxes, bangle boxes, namak danis, tissue boxes,
candle holders and jewellery boxes; which she adorns painstakingly with her
intricately whorled flowers. She also makes
exquisite stationery items like handmade envelopes,
magnetic pen holders, picture frames, decorative folders and gift wrapping
paper.
Her journey began in
1999, when she started taking classes for Entre Nous, teaching children under
the age of 12, how to make different craft items, charcoal painting and basic
woodwork. This eventually progressed to creating and making craft products
from home.
As
she expanded her business, she went on to display her handiwork at a few
exhibitions like Meena Bazaar, Zeenisha’s Talent Window and The Women
Entrepreneur’s Exhibition at Holiday Inn.
Her
talent is being given the attention it deserves; as she was recently featured
in the Times of India, in an article penned by Ritika Kumar. We wish her all
the very best for her future endeavours.
