Beauty is in the EYE
Your eyes are not just a window to your soul, but the first indicator of how healthy you really are. Sparking bright eyes speak of health and vitality and are a precursor to a long and healthy vision in the long run. Check out these tips for essential eye care.
Tired Eyes
Long hours on the computer or reading can tire your eyes resulting in eye strain and headaches. At the simplest level make sure you read in adequate light, give your eyes a break after every two hours and make sure that you wear your reading glasses if you have them. But to go that extra mile, try these eye exercises to help your eyes to relax:
v Put the base of your palm over closed eyes and press gently. Cover the eyes with "cupped" palms. Open the eyes and look in to darkness created by your palms. This will relax your tired eyes.
v Open and shut your eyes tightly ten times, twice a day.
v Focus on a pencil or object held close (about 10 cm) to your face, the fix your eyes on a distant object, then look at the pencil again-do this five times.
v Roll your eyes in a complete circle from left to right twenty times a day, and then do the same from right to left.
v With the head erect move the eyes-first looking at the roof and then the floor. Repeat 10 times. Again, look first to the extreme left and then extreme right.
Puffy Eyes
Puffy eyes could be hereditary or could be the result of lifestyle issues like eating the wrong kind of food or lack of sleep. Make sure you drink lots of water, get enough sleep and eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Some home-made remedies to help you:-
v Apply grated unpeeled potato to closed eyelids for about 20 minutes.
v Cucumber juice applied to the area below your eyes every night at bed time may help if you have dark circles.
Sparkling Eyes
These are found in fresh fruits such as oranges, apples, grapes, peaches, papaya and pomegranate; green vegetables like lettuce, cabbage, spinach; root vegetables like potatoes, carrots, onions and beetroots; nuts, dried fruits, eggs and dairy products. Dull eyes and abnormal vision due to riboflavin deficiency can thus be found in almost any person who fails to eat these foods.
